FAQ on CHS changes

Introduction
Effective October 2008, the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, the Recreation and Tourism Management Program and the Social Work Program located on the ASU West campus, as part of the College of Human Services, have now joined the College of Public Programs located on the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus. Because of this change, this document has been developed to address future and current student and parent concerns.
This document is based on the most current information but may change in the future as new developments arise.
Classes
Question: Where do I take my classes starting Fall 2009?
NOTE: All schedules and classes remain the same for Spring 2009
Answer:
If you are an entering freshman student, studying Criminology and Criminal Justice or Recreation and Tourism Management in the Fall of 2009, you will take your classes at the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus. If you are a Social Work freshman student in the Fall of 2009, you can take your classes at ASU West or ASU Downtown Phoenix campus.
If you are an undergraduate continuing student in Criminology and Criminal Justice, Recreation and Tourism Management or Social Work, courses will be offered at both campuses. However, not all courses will be offered at both campuses, so you may need to take some at ASU West and some at ASU Downtown Phoenix campus. Many courses in Criminology and Criminal Justice will also be offered online for students at either campus.
If you are a new or continuing graduate student in Criminology and Criminal Justice or Recreation and Tourism Management, you will take your courses at the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus starting Fall 2009. If you are a graduate student in Social Work, you can take courses at either ASU West or ASU Downtown Phoenix campus.
Faculty
Question: Where will my faculty and instructors be located?
Answer: All faculty and instructors will be available to meet with students at the campus where they teach courses regardless of the semester and the program.
The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice and Recreation and Tourism Management program currently at ASU West will be moving to the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus in Fall 2009. The Social Work program will remain at the ASU West campus as part of the School of Social Work that additionally offers programs at the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus and in Tucson, AZ.
Housing
Question: If I plan to live on campus starting Fall 2009, where do I live?
NOTE: All students living on ASU West campus can remain in Las Casas for Spring 2009
Answer:
According to a new policy in effect Fall 09, all entering ASU freshmen who do not live at home, are expected to live on campus in a residence hall located at the campus where their program/major are located.
If you are an entering freshman student, studying Criminology and Criminal Justice or Recreation and Tourism Management in Fall of 2009, you will be assigned a residential hall room in Taylor Place located on the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus. If you study Social Work in the Fall of 2009, you can choose which campus you would like to be affiliated with, IE where your classes will be held. Once you choose a campus you will be assigned a residence hall room on your chosen campus.
If you are an undergraduate continuing student in Criminology and Criminal Justice, Recreation and Tourism Management or Social Work, you can live on any campus you choose and you can also choose to live off campus.
If you are a new or continuing graduate student, you can live on any campus you choose and you can also choose to live off campus.
Advising
Question: Where do I get advising for Spring 2009 and Fall 2009 semesters?
Answer:
All students studying Criminology and Criminal Justice, Recreation and Tourism and Social Work at ASU West will be able to get advising for Spring and Fall 2009 semesters at the ASU West campus. Advising offices are located on the first floor of the FAB Building. Their location has not moved, and they can be reached at 602 543-6600.
Orientation
Question: Where do I go for ASU Orientation if I am an incoming freshman student choosing to major in Criminology and Criminal Justice, Recreation and Tourism and Social Work?
Answer:
All incoming freshman students in the Criminology and Criminal Justice major and the Recreation and Tourism major will attend ASU Orientation on the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus. If you are an incoming freshman student studying Social Work, you will attend orientation at the campus where your program is located. For example, if you choose Social Work at ASU West, you will attend orientation at ASU West.
Graduation
Question: If I am graduating in Fall 2008, where will my ceremonies by held? What will my degree say?
Answer: If you started as a College of Human Services student at the ASU West campus and are graduating this semester, Fall 2008, you will be attending the convocation at the ASU West campus as planned. You are also encouraged to attend the ASU graduation ceremony at the Wells Fargo Arena, located on the ASU Tempe campus. You can contact you advisor for further information about graduation.
For Fall 08 graduating students, their degree will indicate College of Human Services.
Question: If I am graduating in Spring 2009, where will my ceremonies be held? What will my degree say?
Answer: All students in the College of Public Programs, which as of October 2008, includes the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, the Recreation and Tourism program and the Social Work program formerly in the College of Human Services, will attend the College of Public Programs, Downtown Phoenix campus graduation to be held in Downtown Phoenix.
Starting with Spring 09, all students will receive degrees that indicate College of Public Programs as a college.
Parking and transit
Question: Will my parking pass work at either campus?
Answer: Yes, both the ASU West and ASU Downtown Phoenix campuses have reciprocal lots. These are parking lots that allow any permit from any campus at any time. You can find out more information about these lots by go to: http://uabf.asu.edu/parking_information.
You can log onto http://uabf.asu.edu/parking_transportation to find out information about light rail, bus and shuttle services as well.
Other Student Support Services
Question: Can I access the library at a different campus?
Answer: Student support services and programs like computer labs, libraries, meal plans, dining facilities, and tutoring located at any ASU campus are open to any ASU student regardless of major.
